As we continue to share ideas and inspiration during our Make Space For Crafting series, here’s a great idea for covering up a plastic crate to create a stylish storage solution. Laura Gunn of Paint My Hair shares the downloadable PDF pattern over on her blog. [via @thelongthread]

We did a major furniture shuffle after I tore up my doll and sewing Lab, ditched half my fabric and 20 dolls to a donation center, and got a new desk off Craigslist. I’ve been crafting like crazy ever since.
An open cabinet that was in the Lab is now in Dearest Son’s room, and the milk crates we were using for toy storage in it really weren’t working. He’s in the Lego/action figure stage, which equates to tons of tiny pieces slipping through the slots. I was thinking of buying boxes when I saw this – perfect !
His crates were slightly bigger than the pattern, but no worries – it was easy to use the formula she helpfully included to draft a custom pattern for *any* size box ! Start to finish, it took me about two hours, but that’s because I agonize over cutting fabric, and measure about fifty times. Instead of muslin and a print, I used a glittery space fabric and a ‘Wall-e’ remnant. My husband announced ‘It’s full of stars !’ when he saw it. It’s adorable, and fits great, even without a button or brad.
And, if I wanted to, I could even embroider a name or a label on either fabric. This is a great pattern, and I love it ! Thanks for the link – I will *definitely* make up more of these.
