Quilting Inspiration: 10 Lessons Learned

After finishing her gorgeous hand-quilted hexagon quilt this past winter, Michele from Michele Made Me wrote her future self a fantastic letter to remind her of all of the valuable lessons that she learned during the process. As a new quilter (and lover of hexies) myself, I found her reflections to be so honest, motivating, and helpful that I just had to share them with you guys.

You remember that hexie quilt you made in 2012 and 2013? Remember, before you ever made it, how much you had wanted a hexagon quilt? Remember how you’d thought it was an unrealistic far-flung dream? And then remember how you worked to make it just the same, and how nice it eventually turned out?

Okay good.

Here are some of the secrets to that success. Or 10 things you learned from your hexagon quilt, if you will. Take this letter out whenever you doubt yourself or whenever you think one of your ideas is just too big to handle. Hopefully it knocks some sense into you.

Looking back upon a project’s successes and struggles, and then passing that knowledge along, is a beautiful thing, and one of the traditions in the crafting community that I love most of all. (Thank you for sharing, Michele!)

Ready to be inspired? Head over to Michele Made Me to read the 10 lessons that she learned and to see even more photos of her finished quilt.
