Sewing Tips: Intro to the Serger

seekatesew_serger_101

Sergers are awesome sewing tools, but, over the years, they’ve gained a reputation for being hard to use and even harder to thread. And, while at least some of that notoriety may have been deserved by machines in the past, many modern sergers are now designed with home sewists in mind, and are much easier to use and thread. So, if you’ve been intimidated by sergers in the past, it might be time to take a second look, and this Intro to the Serger post in the Sewing 101 series on See Kate Sew is a solid place to start.

Full disclosure: I actually own a Brother 1034D serger (the serger used in Kate’s intro post) myself, and it’s what I use in my own home studio. If you’d like more information on how it and many other home sergers like it work, I reviewed it a few years ago over on Craft Test Dummies.
