Flowers aren’t the only way to add a pop of color to otherwise plain-Jane vases. With just a bit of yarn and an evening in front of the TV, you can whip up a craftier solution! These vase sleeves are worked up in the current pattern-craze du jour (see my Ode-to Missoni Blanket): the chevron stitch. Make them in your favorite colors, then change ’em out to fit the season… or your mood!

Materials

Stitch.Rock.Love Sheep(ish) for Caron (167 yds/153m; 30% wool/70% acrylic) in colors: (A) Yellow(ish), (C) Lime(ish) (D) Pumpkin(ish), (E) Robin’s Egg(ish), (F) Olive(ish), plus small amount of (B) White(ish)
US 8 (5mm) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle
3 cylindrical vases measuring approx. 10″, 12 1/2″, and 15″ around, any height. (Psst! I got mine as a set from Ikea.)

I think these will be cute as cozy’s for dinking glasses. A set in different color combinations help identifiy who’s drink is who’s.

  2. N J Gill says:

As written, the stitch pattern has no increases to compensate for the “K2tog” at the beginning and end of each row, so as you knit, you’re going to have a triangular piece and the inc/dec pattern for the chevrons will not stack up properly.

Hello! Love Vicki Howell and her work! I went to look at the children’s leg warmers and did print out the pattern. The problem I had was that I couldn’t find the “Helpful”section as noted in that pattern. It is supposed to tell us how to make these leg warmers in a larger size, if we would like to do that. Where is this section?
Thanks so much and keep up the great work!!
    All the best,
    Susan

Leave it to Vickie to come up with this chevron pattern – I have seen it in crochet but not in knit until now..cannot wait to try it. Thanks, Vickie and “knit on!”…Norma
