CRAFT: DIY Wedding
DIY_Wedding_Roundup_Opener.jpg
I have two sets of close friends getting married this year — and within three weeks of each other! Not only am I in charge of wedding invites, but I’ll be handling most of the printed material, including table numbers, place settings, menus, takeaways, signage. Needless to say, I’m completely emersed in the wedding blog circuit looking for inspiration. And there is no shortage of thoughtful, engaging (hehe) sites. Here are some of my favorites.

DIY_Wedding_Roundup_Once_Wed.jpg
Once Wed is my staple, the cornerstone, my go-to wedding site. It has everything, from DIY projects to stunning real-wedding photographs, even an inventory of bridal dresses! They break the weddings down by theme (elegant, rustic, budget, whimsical) and by color! Yes, you can search for a “Yellow Wedding.” How awesome is that? Once Wed makes me wish my life was an endless summer of friends, dresses, flowers, food, and printed goodies … sometimes I actually visit this site just to boost my mood!

DIY_Wedding_Roundup_Green_Wedding_Shoes.jpg
Green Wedding Shoes is a California-based site “for the modern bride” that fully reflects the colorful, fashion-forward, playfulness of love in coastal climates — think papel picado meets vintage lace. I really love their Inspiration Boards. See Brookelynn’s post here.

DIY_Wedding_Roundup_Utterly_Engaged.jpg
Utterly Engaged is an online wedding magazine currently in their 10th issue. There’s plenty of eye candy, decor tips, design challenges, vendors, interviews, and advice. My favorite section thus far has been a desert-themed bachelorette party (staged, but whatever) in Issue no 6. Whiskey, cowgirl boots, and a tepee. ‘Nough said.

DIY_Wedding_Roundup_Casando_Ideias.jpg
Casando Ideias is composed by a Brazilian journalist and appears in both Portuguese and English. At first I thought it was a fashion site, but oh no, it’s so much more. If you scroll down to “Posts On” you’ll find everything from accessories and make-up to invitations and receptions. It’s an entire world of dazzling discoveries, all centered around the festa of getting hitched. Gorgeous!

DIY_Wedding_Roundup_Offbeat_Bride.jpg
Offbeat Bride is a personal favorite. The name says it all, but the pictures say more. Red wedding dresses, drum circle receptions, periodic table seating, geek chic wedding favors, a plus size round-up, an octopus cake, wheelchair-friendly wedding dresses, tattoos, handfasting, steampunk … all affectionately known as “Wedding Porn.” Yes, please!

DIY_Wedding_Roundup_Oh_So_Beautiful_Paper.jpg
Oh So Beautiful Paper is, you guessed it, a site dedicated to all things printed on paper. It encompasses more than Wedding Invitations, including Packaging and Stationary, but also provides an enormous selection of Save the Dates, Placecards, and Letterpress that amount to hours of inspiration. When you’re stuck in the proverbial mire, pulling out hair over creating an invitation that’s truly “special,” this site has the power to lift you up and fill your head with ideas.

All of the aforementioned sites include DIY sections. These are DIY exclusive.
DIY_Wedding_Roundup_DIY_Sites.jpg
DIY Bride was created by the author of two do-it-yourself wedding craft books. The site focuses on creating community through sharing tips, and providing budget-friendly ideas and advice. You can read her intro post here.
My DIY Wedding Day fits a lot of ideas into each and every post. But it’s not just the number of notions, everything is beautiful and crafty and makes you realize why people’s lives become eclipsed while planning a wedding. There’s so much to do! And it all looks fun!
iDiY (Design Goodies for ‘IDo’-it-Yourself Weddings) was started by a bride who, post-wedding, wanted to do something with all the inspiration inventory she had compiled. There are tutorials, downloads, how-to’s, steals and deals, upcycled, and more.
