Yarn Bombing: Mustache

Craft & Design

I love the touch of whimsy this yarn-bombed mustache from Flickr user, sara_mc, gives to this massive brick statue in Indianapolis. I got in touch with Sara to learn more about the project.

April Duncanson started a weekly knitting group that met in Broad Rippple in Indianapolis called Pick Two (name inspired by our original meeting place, Panera and their “Pick Two” menu option). As a group, we talked about taking on a yarn bombing project for a long time, but hadn’t gotten around to it.
When our fearless leader announced that she was relocating to Philadelphia, we started secret plans to knit a group project for her. Since she could knit anything she wanted for herself, we chose to surprise her with a yarn bomb in her honor.
We decided on knitting up a multi-colored moustache to adorn James Tyler’s Brickhead 3. The giant head sculpture is in Davlan Park on the 400 block of Massachusetts Avenue in Indianapolis. We lovingly nicknamed him Burt (as in Reynolds, of course).

What a fun tribute! I love it! [via Yarn Bombing]
