In this video, Robert Bruce Thompson shows you how to make your own crystal iodine, a DEA-regulated chemical, in about two minutes with readily available chemicals.

Many people are allergic to iodine. You should only work with this chemical if you are sure that you are not one of these people.

This video incorporates, in modified form, material from Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments: All Lab, No Lecture.

Thanks, Patrick. I learn something new every day. I knew that iodine was toxic and irritating, of course, but I didn’t realize that it was also an allergen.
