Monome is a group of people creating versatile hardware interfaces which emphasize user adaptability. Our first project is a grid of tactile pushbuttons with internal LEDs, which are independently programmable, allowing for a wide variety of responsive applications (including music performance and composition, data visualization and manipulation, video toys, and games). We produce units on a small scale using a combination of industrial and garage techniques. circuit design, open-source development, physical parts design, production, and assembly all happen locally. As the capabilities of small-scale production improve, more flexible and open products are becoming possible. We're hoping our project will encourage similar endeavors.
