Ultrasonic Rangefinding Distance Device and Alarm (Section 1)
Type:
Workshop
Program Area:
Robotics
Materials Fee $15
Day/Time: Saturday, April 22 12:00 PM (60 minutes)
Location: Fiesta Hall Workshop
Using the Ping (a pre-calibrated, pulse-width output ultrasonic rangefinder) sensor on a BASIC Stamp board, you will build and program a distance detection alarm system. This device could be used to sense the distance between the garage wall and the car bumper, to count people passing by a fixed location, to detect whether a window is open or closed, or on a robot to determine the location and distance of an obstacle. The feedback device will be a row of LEDs to show distance (eight LEDs to show up to 3m distance) and a speaker as an alarm. You will take all of the hardware and code away from the seminar to continue developing the project on their own. This Parallax workshop will last about one hour.
This workshop will be repeated on Sunday at 11:30 AM.
