A few years back I built a subwoofer into an ottoman. It sounds great, and of course matches the decor quite well. Wife was not too pleased at first, but it is now part of the family.

The purpose was to show that speakers do not have to be limited to conventional form factors. Also, it is an opening to the discussion of building your own speakers. Speaker building, IMHO, is one of the few areas in Hi-Fi where the DIY type can easily out do off the shelf for less money, and with a high likelihood of success.
