Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and sound. It is used by students, artists, designers, architects, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool.

This workshop will provide and introduction to the Processing language and environment. Participants will learn to create an interactive graphical application ready for viewing online. Bring your laptop if you can.

This workshop will also be held on Saturday at 12:30 PM.

Presenters

Gabriel Dunne and Aaron Koblin
Aaron Koblin studied Art at the University of California, Santa Cruz with a focus on Electronic Art. He has been interested in alternative interfaces and bringing technology-driven interactive experiences away from the computer terminal. Aaron was an Irwin Scholar in 2004 and has studied in The Netherlands and Japan. Utilizing a background in the computer game industry Aaron led a course in game design for the web at UCLA during the summer of '05. Recently, Aaron has been working with data driven work and is both a research assistant in the department of Statistics and an MFA candidate in the department of Design|Media Arts at UCLA. Gabriel Dunne's work ranges from traditional design and art to experimental programming works. He studied Design|Media Arts at UCLA, and experimental print making in Pont Aven, France. His work has shown at CiberArt in Bilbao, and has won multiple international awards. His recent work Celestial Mechanics was featured at SIGGRAPH 2005. For the past two years he has worked as a resident R&D and designer for Motion Theory, a design firm in Venice, CA, developing various music videos and commercials for clients including Beck, Nike, HP, and RESfest.
