Intro to MIG Welding

In this workshop you will learn to cut and weld steel using proper MiG welding techniques. While learning to make a small picture frame in steel, you will learn ot cut metal with gas torches and weld it back toether using a MiG welder. The equipment you wil use in this course are the MiG welder, the ocyacetylene torch, metal saws and grinders. The skills used in this class will be easily adaptable to sculpture, fabrication and mechanical structures. All materials and tools will be provided.

Core Welding Competencies
This class will teach you the following skills:

* General welding safety and safe use of shielding gasses.
* Adjustment of current and voltage control
* Correct Wire Selection and Feed
* Use of regulators
* Correct machine setup
* Correct torch angle
* Correct travel speed
* Bead on plate and fillet joints in the flat postion
* Setup and use of oxyacetylene torch
* Oxyacetylene safety
* Selecting the correct tool for cutting
* Finishing techniques


About the Instructor
Joe Kaulenas brings over ten years professional welding experience to Willoughby and Baltic. As a professional welder for a property management group, Joe has welded countless structures, vehicles, pipes and metals. Joe has been an educator in welding, cutting and brazing and has taught one-on-one and in group settings. Joe is certified in arc welding.


Class Dates
This class is held on three consecutive Sunday mornings (Nov. 8, Nov. 15, Nov. 22) at 13 Joy Street starting at 9:30am and ending at noon. Parking is on-street in front of the building and there are no permits required and no meters.
