MAKE Newsletter for December 2, 2006
The Maker's Bill of Rights, MAKE Flickr Pool, and the Open Source Gift Guide.
Greetings Makers,
This is a pretty massive newsletter--we've been really busy getting ready for the holidays here at MAKE. We put together the largest open source gift guide with dozens of items to make, build, and share! Also included in this newsletter is a downloadable copy of the "Maker's Bill of Rights" and a special announcement about the MAKE Flickr photo pool.

The Maker's Bill of Rights (PDF)

A lot of ya'll emailed me and/or posted requesting a PDF of The Maker's Bill of Rights so here it is. Go make posters, prints, whatever you like. If there's another format you want it in, post up in the comments or make the format you want others to use and post it - Link. A lucky maker that prints it out, puts it in their shops, office, wherever, and takes a photo to share in our Flickr group might get a nice present from our MAKE store.
MAKE Flickr photo pool reaches 2,000 members!

The MAKE Flickr photo group is one of the best places to share photos of projects, interesting technology and backyard tech with other Makers. We're thrilled to announce that we just hit 2,000 members (Thanks Vrog!). A small milestone for some groups, but a big one for everyone who likes to build things! Link. Pictured here, a great photo of a project in the photo group from isorobot - Any robot can fetch a beer, what about a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses? with Bluetooth and the onboard video camera this maker-modded red Roomba can be controlled from a laptop. The Open Source Gift Guide: Open source hardware, software, and more for the holidays!

There are hundreds of gift guides this holiday season filled with junk you can buy, but a lot of times you actually don't own it, you can't improve upon it, you can't share it or make it better, and you certainly can't post the plans, schematics, and source code either. We want to change that. We've put together our picks of interesting open source hardware projects, open source software, services, and things that have the maker spirit of open source. Some are kits, some are open software projects that you'll need to build hardware for before gifting, and some are just support for the projects/groups that do open source. Included in this guide are things you can get from the MAKE store too (we try and have as many open source goods as possible). And we're not done. Post in the comments on what you think should be in the Open Source Gift Guide and we'll add it! Just stick to the same format we did, name, link, and a couple of sentences. We need your help, so send in other great OS gifts. If you're spending money this season, support open source, and give a gift that gives back!
