THE COMPACT AFINIA H479 IS A VERSION OF PP3DP’S UP PLUS 3D printer, rebranded for the U.S. market. It’s got a single extruder and runs via USB of Mac or Windows machines, with no onboard controls except an Initialize button and a flashing status indicator. But despite the no-frills hardware, it’s a surprising little performer that’s ideal for beginners.

Just wanted to mention that the owl you printed as a test is not supposed to have a hole going all the way through its nose. It is just supposed to be two indentations, as indicated by the model itself and by the folks over at LulzBot. http://www.lulzbot.com/blog/quality-nostrils

The UP also had the best results on the torture test and I’m sure the experts at Make know what they are doing. Make is a great mag, thanks and keep up the product reviews. I love my UP!

I shared my Ultimate Guide to 3D printing with a coworder, and we ended up with the Afina in our office. I ran samples of a design that I had ordered once SLA prototypes for, and was impressed with the results. I think it is a very good intro to 3D printing.

  4. Michael Kroll says:

I tried to order the Alfina from Switzerland, but it is only available in the US. The UP! Plus 3D Printer is the one, marketed in europe. According to distributors both printers are 100% identical. Can you guys at Make confirm that?

    1. Brian says:

The UP and the Afinia are identical, I bought my UP from 3dprintingsystems.com in Australia

    2. Elements Lab says:

As far as I can remember, I read an article a couple weeks ago, said that the name of “Afinia” was created for US market only, something related to branding issue. So Afinia is UP!.

  5. Mojo says:
