Tool Review: All-in-One Eshears

Scissors-1
Vampire Tools recently sent me a pair of their All-in-One Eshears, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using them in a variety of settings so far. Vampire has a reputation around the office for creating tools with gorgeous grips, great attention to detail and a finished product with high tolerances and unwavering durability. Thankfully, the Eshears stood up to our high expectations.

The blades feature barely-discernable micro-serrations for effective cutting and the flexibility to handle all sorts of materials. I’ve been using and abusing these relentlessly for the last few weeks and have thrown everything at them I could think of – cable ties, wooden bamboo skewers, thin sheet metal, etc… They handled it all without issue. The grips are composed of two different materials, and despite being relatively small, are comfortable to use, even for someone with fairly large hands (like me).

These scissors have a few neat features that are worth mentioning, aside from the pure cutting power and small size. Each of the stainless steel blades has a curved section, making cutting all things cylindrical, like heat shrink tubing, wooden dowels, and snipping wire (they easily handled the largest I have on-hand, 12 AWG) a breeze.

There’s also a gap in between the curved sections of the blades and the handles, meant for crimping wire. This feature didn’t get the extensive use that the others did, since crimping isn’t an action I complete regularly, but fear not – the crimping test I did perform went off without a hitch. One of the blades also has a detent cut into the front, which can be used on the edge of a 90 degree corner to scrape away any debris.

It’s this attention to detail, whether purely aesthetic or functional, that not only makes me a huge fan of the Eshears, but Vampire Tools in general. Their Vampliers (which I also reviewed, and highly recommend) feature fancy patterns in the handles and a variety of serration directions in the pliers for reliably gripping a wide array of parts, for example. In this case, they even cut a tiny taper into each blade at the point where they meet, to keep the tolerances tight and give a “clicky” feeling when opening the blades. It’s strangely satisfying.

The only time I’d swap these out for other scissors is when I’m not satisfied with the short reach they have. Of course, if you’re just trying to rip through sheets of paper at warp speed, using these would probably be overkill anyway. But other than that, these have become the staple. Oh, and they come with a plastic sheath that you can clip to your belt. What’s not to love?

Vampire Tools continues to impress me with their high-quality products, making this yet another tool that will remain within reach on my bench for the foreseeable future. And it will make a great stocking stuffer for the tool lover in your life. Pick one up from their web store right here.
