Getting Started With Breadboarding

Thank you for purchasing the Getting Started with Breadboarding Kit at Maker Faire! We’re glad you picked one up, and hope you have a great time playing and learning with it. Below are five sample projects you can complete with the components included in the kit.

If you’ve never used a schematic to recreate a circuit before, this guide will be helpful. And here’s a fantastic tutorial on getting up and running with a prototyping breadboard, courtesy of Jody Culkin:

1. LED Pulser Circuit using Op-Amp: build a simple LED blinking circuit with an Op-Amp. Change the resistor values to achieve different blinking frequencies.

2. Simple Light Theremin: build a simple theremin with a photoresistor and 555 Timer. Move your hand over the resistor to make some cool sounds! Try using a flashlight and your hand to make some cool effects.

3. Toy Organ: use this simple toy organ to play five different tones. Use the potentiometer to adjust the tune of the organ on the fly.

Toy Organ

4. Electronic Cricket Circuit: Make a simple cricket circuit that chirps at a frequency depending on the amount of light hitting the photoresistor. Instead of using a speaker as feedback, trying switching in a few LEDs instead!

Electronic Cricket

5. Dark Detecting LED: build a simple night light with this circuit. The LED gets brighter when it detects less light. Adjust the resistor values to change the sensitivity of the device.
