Peter Cole’s Vintage Key Hooks and Necklaces

Having trouble keeping track of your keys? Maybe you need one of these wall hooks made from keys by artist and World Maker Faire Alum Peter Cole on which to hang them. Cole was back at World Maker Faire this year, but instead of showing off his curious sculptures, he’s exhibiting a different series of works made from found objects.

Cole collected vintage keys and customized them with hammered texts and then bent them into wall hooks and necklaces. Not only are these an ingenious way to reuse an otherwise useless object, they’re a unique way to customize your home and your person!

I also collect keys. I have over 700 different ones from skeleton key to folding keys, key corkscrews etc., etc. I have a book on key collecting that is out of print. I have keys made of wood, plastic, metal hanging all over my walls in my home. I also have 3 rings made from a key that was available from Avon many years ago. I have the prototype of it also before it was bent into a ring.
I have stamps with keys on them and plates with pictures of keys. I LOVE KEYS !! I am a “key” person. My email is sovaplbg@yahoo.com if someone wants to tell me about their key fetish.

I wonder if you need to anneal keys to bend them, ie hit them with a torch to make them easier to bend….. Probably depends on how strong one is. I probably would need to torch them first. I have seen someone who makes rings out of them on Etsy. I have the old key to the apartment I grew up in, and it’s a really cool vintage one, lots of scrollwork, though not a skeleton key. Would love to turn it into a ring, and all the other keys I have laying around into hooks. Much more interesting than cuphooks.

I make key holders with keys and recycled wood…I’ve been selling them and people like them.

Guys, will someone please suggest the website you get these tools in cheap rates? i have searched amazon and ebay. It would have been easier with a video tutorial I guess. I have some other metal crap that I’m getting removed with the help of waste management professionals from Toronto’s Junk It.
