Make: Video test (for PlayStation Portable – PSP)

makepsp.jpgWe’re testing our new video feed- I made a quick video (MP4) that shows the ways many PSP hackers discovered to use a PlayStation Portable (PSP) as a web browser using a game called Wipeout Pure, an awesome DNS/PSP Portal from FugiMax and all the great info from all the PSP tinkerers out there. Follow the directions here to actually do this and to watch our test video. Save this video file to your local system and play on your Mac/PC or create a new folder on your PSP Memory Stick called MP_Root and inside that folder another folder called 100MNV01 and place the M4V83876.MP4 file in there. On the PSP go to videos and play it. Keep in mind, it’s just a quick and dirty test. If you’re in to more testing– subscribe to our RSS 2.0 feed podcast/videoblog aggregator style and have any audio, video and files we post here downloaded automatically. Make:Audio coming soon!

    Question:

Can someone please post the actual conversion settings needed to save video to the PSP? The problem is that I don’t use Windows, so that free tool doesn’t help.

Looking at the web page for the Video 9, it doesn’t seem to be a lot more than a front-end to Quicktime. I have Quicktime, but the MP4s I create only show up as “corrupt data” on the PSP even though they play fine on my Mac.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

under linux with cvs build of ffmpeg from 03/03/2005 this command worked for me. (not the latest cvs builds don’t work)

    ffmpeg -y -i VIDEOFILETOCONVERT.avi -title “Jake In
    Progress S01E05” -timestamp “2005-03-25” -bitexact -f psp -s 320×240
    -r 29.97 -b 768 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 24000 -ab 32 M4V10005.MP4

There’s so much glare on the video it’s pretty much useless, only the audio-track is useful. Would you like to redo it, or anyone want to extract the audio and make a (smaller-sized) MP3 out of it?

Anyone know if it’s possible to play Movies, Pictures, and music over wifi using this browser ?

  6. philliptorrone says:

movah- you can show pictures, but not other media using this browser. i bet that’ll change when sony, or someone else, releases a browser.
