Dave Zantz is up to his TiVo hacking tricks again. He informs us that TiVo Series 2 DVRs have a hidden web server integrated into the system that allows remote access to stored video content. Dave says, “it’s no Slingbox, but for many people it doesn’t require any additional equipment or expense.” Link.

What I think is the most useful part of the embedded server is getting your Now Playing list via XML. Do something like: https://tivoip/TiVoConnect?Command=QueryContainer&Container=%2FNowPlaying&Recurse=Yes to grab the entire thing. You can also manipulate music and photos if you’ve decided to share them. You can get the HME spec at http://tivo.com/developer/i/HmoMusicPhotosSpecv1.1.pdf
