Extremely simple one image how to on repairing defective keys of a remote control. Just glue small pieces of aluminium foil onto the graphite contacts of the keys. Use a hole puncher to cut the small pieces out of the aluminium foil. Link.

  1. “CRTs, not by choice, I just can’t get rid of them legally”

Well, good on you for not just dumping them.

Have you checked with your municipal trash service about household hazmat collections? If they won’t come and get them, there’s often a place you can take consumer electronics.

Also, there’s probably some type of computer recycling entity in your area. The last time I checked the one closest to me charged a small fee to take monitors (because they may have to in turn dispose of it).

  2. I have a small slide rule collection–perhaps four or five pieces.

My larger collection is fountain pens. This ranges from modern pieces to ones dating back to the nineteenth century.
