I can’t believe this. I was just looking at a newer version of this book (from the 40s or 50s) on my parent’s bookshelf.
where would we be without gutenberg
This book series is available from Lee Valley Tools. They also have reprints of the Popular Mechanic’s shop tips in volumes from 1905 – 1930 as well a number of other “vintage” reprints. From reading these, it’s obvious that a country drive was an mechanical adventure and not just a quick jaunt. The reprints are very good quality (like new printing, not copied), and fairly inexpensive. Lee Valley also has a great assortment of mostly woodworking-related tools and hardware of very good quality and fair prices.
For what it is worth, Dover also publishes a reprint of some/all of this under the title The Boy Mechanic: Best Projects from the Classic Popular Mechanics Series.
Wow… A book from 1913. I love project Gutenberg!
I may try to find the original for my garage :)
