After I was done i did some googling and it turns out I wasn’t the first to try it, but its still an awesome idea. The south pointing chariot was first invented by Chinese Emperor Huang Di in 2634BC to be used by his armies, possibly the first use of a differential gear. If you are unfamiliar with differential gears, be sure to check out the Wikipedia Article. – [via] Link.

  1. I’m surprized pt didn’t mention this, but the south-pointing chariot features in MAKE 04’s Maker interview with Dean Kamen.

  2. Hi, I need to design and build a “South Pointing Chariot” not mechanically, but electronically.

The figure on top of the chariot should always point to the same direction of the compass regardless of the chariot’s motion.

The pointing direction is read from the PC.

As the chariot moves, the distance that the wheel(s) travel should be collected.

The trajectory (direction and distance) that the chariot follows
    is recorded in the PC.

Hardware must be on stripboard or PCB.

I know how to build this mechanically, but not electronically. I need ideas on how to implement this electronically.

Any assistance or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  3. I think i have given you guyz this project in the group of 6.I need you to report to my room on Thursday between 3-5.
If you will not come , i find you by your email address and give you big zero.
