Docking pack for your gadgets

Steven writes – “This is a very simple one-evening hack… integrating the clutter of wall-warts, docking units, USB cables, media readers, and all the other other “gadget support” that usually takes the form of a sloppy tangle in the general vicinity of one’s computer. The result is a single pack with only two cables (AC and USB), which you can grab along with the laptop and bag of gadgets when it’s time to hit the road on short notice. The idea is very simple, but it’s already been a big time-saver here (and I now have more room for OTHER clutter!).”Link.

i’d kind of want those outlets to be individually switched… no need for all that power draw just to recharge one battery.

Yes, I agree completely… turning them all on is quite wasteful. I banged this together from stray hardware that was lying around, but would be happier with individual switched AC dongles instead of the space-hogging strip that’s all-or-none. Phantom loads are evil! I’m watching for suitable hardware…

Wow, you’d never get this through an airport. Cool though, I did this once when my power went out. I packed all the power cubes I needed into a backpack, ran them into my pockets and plugged them into my devices. When I was near a power socket at school I’d just plug in. Worked great and allowed me to write a whole paper at home on my iBook when there was no power.
