BevNet has an article about those calcium oxide based self heating cans we took apart, despite our best efforts we couldn’t get them to be very dangerous – “Once considered the “next big thing” by excited coffee lovers and technology buffs alike, the Wolfgang Puck Self-Heating Latte is being withdrawn from shelves because of concerns that many of the innovative cans are defective, and possibly dangerous.” – [via] Link.

Thank god. You know what’s even better than a recyclable aluminum can? A big lump of disposable concrete. Whoever greenlighted these things really needs to revisit their idea of waste management ethics.

Then again, maybe they just have.

Agreed, I hope this ruins Wolfgang Puck. I am a big fan of coffee and I’ve tried just about every canned coffee on the market, but I could never bring myself to buy one of these.

It’s funny that it’s called ‘Once considered the “next big thing” by excited coffee lovers and technology buffs alike’ — I’m both and I’ve hated idea of this product since the day I first heard of it.
