Here’s a pretty cool lamp, made from a lead pipe & other fittings. [via] – Link.

Those look more like galvanized pipes and fittings, not lead. I don’t think they ever sold lead pipe with barcodes on them.

Yup, I thought the same thing when I first saw it: iron pipes, not lead. You’d never get a thread like that on a metal as soft as lead. Lead pipes were joined by soldering, not by screw-threads.

  3. NickCarter says:

Can you even buy lead pipe anymore?

Does anyone use the phrase “It’s a lead pipe cinch” anymore either?

  4. KWillets says:

Black pipe might look good too. I think everyone who has ever worked in a hardware store has come up with some sort of lamp built of pipe fittings.

BTW the threads are the same as electrical fittings, so you can screw your creation into a wall box if you want. Lamp nipples too; you can screw an entire lamp together from electrical, gas, and water fittings without any special adapters.
