Man builds home from “Big Dig” scrap materials

Jason writes – “Paul Pedini built his home from trash-heap-bound construction materials left over from Boston’s Big Dig. The effort was not without controversy. Regardless, Pedini advocates the recycling of construction materials that are used to build temporary roadways.”Link.

  1. Very cool. Literally. The supports for the slabs are steel beams attached to those steel columns you see outside the house. There is no thermal barrier. This is Boston, remember, and it gets quite cold. The steel sucks the heat right out of the house and the beams were quite cold where they entered the house. Solution? Heat the beams on the inside. Good grief.
