PingPongPixel – Display made from ping pong balls

Elvis Example2Large
Displaying images using ping pong balls as pixels – “The whole installation exsists out of 2 units. The first is the display-unit, the other one is the cabinet where we store, sort and dispense the balls. The Display-unit is about 2 by 3 meters, The produced picture is aprox. 2,40 mtrs by 1,80! One pixel is 38mm. Each image is built out of 2700 tennistable balls in 6 greytones! Depending on how fast we can fine tune the system, a picture will be fully visible within 2.5 hours.” [via] – Link.

it would be a very slow game, at 2.5 hrs per render. i think you’d be able to take a nap in-between paddles

  3. chad@chadphillips.org says:

From the video it looks and sounds like it uses a vacuum to pull the balls out of the buckets. Does that sound right?
