Nate writes – “For your altoids tin mod coverage, here’s a different take … a step-by-step descriptions of the components you’ll need (and how to put them all together) for altoid’s tin-sized survival kit that’ll keep you alive if you’re ever lost in the woods. Or stranded in an airport security check line. “Link.

  1. Wow, did that ever bring back some pleasant memories from my long ago youth. Carl and Jerry were my heroes. I started reading every issue of Popular Electronics when I was 11 and I got a subscription. I got my ham license shortly thereafter. I still have the same call sign 48 years later.

Maybe that’s one reason I like “Make”. I built a number of interesting projects from those old PE’s and “Make” sure reminds me of that.

  2. I don’t know if it would be possible to re-create the Carl and Jerry stories today.

They just don’t come up with lines like:

“Oh, fine! I didn’t know we had one!” ejaculated Carl.

While talking about tele tattletales anymore.
