  1. I have a set of vintage metal (aluminium? steel?) interchangables from Sears that cost $2 at an Oklahoma thrift store. I swear by them because I automatically have every needle I need for almost any project, and the metal makes knitting go superfast. The Denise needles, though many love them, seem a bit cheapy, but Boye makes a set similar to mine that seem nice.
    I live in Korea and the only needles I can get here are bamboo but they really seem to slow me down. Metal is the only way to go for me.
