You didn’t think I could get through today with out a bunny post did you? Well I can’t! Easter is one of my best excuses to post more bunny goodness this one made by Laurie at Liquid Paper. She made her with yarn pom poms (another favorite of mine). See more cute photos on her blog! Link.

Folks — I love CRAFT, and don’t want to bring a lot of heavy debate into the craft movement. But: search this site for ‘easter’ vs. ‘passover’ and compare the results. And try ‘christmas’ vs. ‘hanukkah’. Sure, some Jewish holidays may not lend themselves to pom-poms, knitting, or hot glue. but is there nothing crafty for Passover? Crochet yarmulkahs? Make your own seder plate? Bind your original Haggadah?
And HANUKKAH, fer gawsh sakes, is a pushover! Dreidls, menorahs, gelt, gifts…
I realize that CRAFT is secular, but this cultural imbalance is really pronounced. I don’t know enough about other major religous/cultural holidays — Chinese New Year, say, or Ramadan, or Tet — to know what crafting opportunities they offer.
But surely there are people out there bringing their maker/designer skills all these not-based-on-Christian-religious-observance holidays.

    Hi,
Thanks for your comment. To be honest, we report on CRAFT on what is out there on the web. Right now, what’s crossing our paths and being submmited to our site are bunnies and chicks which aren’t necessarily religious but are things that most crafters find easy to make (toys, softies). We don’t make any religious affiliation on this site, nor are we ignoring these kinds of projects. If there are great passover or hanukkah projects we see or that are submitted to us, we will post them up on the blog. So we’re looking to the crafters out there or to you to do more projects like this and show us what you’ve made!
    Thanks,
    Natalie

@brooklynem – if you used the search for both of our sites (make and craft) i think you’ll see we have lots of holiday projects, chinese new year, hanukah, whatever people make stuff for and tell us about … carla and i were also judges along with a rabbi for an NPR holiday contest.
craft is a relatively new site, cut us a bit of slack as we have a year to cover everything and for folks to know about us :)
we post what makers & crafters send us, so i’d suggest make something and send photos in, we’d love to see what you’re up to. i was hoping to see a how-to on that chocolate jesus, but so far nothing…
that being said, if you look on craft i was posting up some laser etched matza i’m bringing to passover dinner… lasers!

thanks for the thoughtful replies. we who celebrate these holidays will just have to represent and let you know about it.
love the laser-etched matzoh! there’s a good reason for splurging on a laser if ever I saw one.
