Electric utility vehicle

Body Framing
FrankG writes in with a new electric utility vehicle project –

This project is the conversion of a 1960’s Pargo Bar-Car to an electric Bush-Buggy. As usual action shots, cutting, grinding and welding as the body is removed some electrical work is done and the beast is transformed.

  1. Great story, but I really don’t appreciate the vulgar language (“Holy F***”). Isn’t Make Magazine supposed to be family oriented? How can I trust Make magazine with children when things like this happen? Please contact the author and kindly ask him to revise his site or consider removing the article from MakeZine.com.

    Thanks,
    Piko

  2. I’ll take the opposite view on this one. I don’t think that articles shouldn’t be linked to based on foul language. The same thing goes for potentially dangerous projects (DIY DVD Laser Pointer anyone?). While I would object to foul language in the printed volumes of Make, the reality is that this is the internet, and parents should take a more interactive roll in what their kids are viewing online. No excuses.

  3. Okay, but that means that MakeZine.com is, yet another, web site that I can’t trust with kids. Don’t you see? Make is a great magazine. They should take greater care in what they choose to link to.

You don’t work for Make or O’Reilly, do you?

  4. Can’t say that I work for Make or O’Reilly, although that would be a sweet gig.

Maybe a possible solution would be to have a “family friendly” rss feed, and an unabridged feed. I see where you’re coming from, but I’d hate to miss out on some cool projects just b/c of some foul language.

  5. Foul Language???

I can’t believe that this is even an issue… But since this is the case, I’ve recently heard that some research into the evolution of linguistics points to cursing as a possible impetus to our usage of language…

Personally I think that it is a hard barberous world out there, and the sooner your kids get exposed to the realities that they will be dealing with the better.

If “Make” or “O’Rielly” institute a censorship of Web-postings based on language, I think that I’d have some hard decisions to make regarding whether I would clean-up my “Potty-Mouth” for the sake of a broader readership, or stay the course of independant self-expression…

Thank God that Piko is not on the Editorial staff…

  6. FrankG, you don’t have kids do you?

‘independent self-expression’ is great, but we all live in the community. Perhaps just the common courtesy of knowing that this is a website that kids also visit would be good.
