   All I want to point out is how I, as a child who grew up reading bad futurism and sci-fi, just adore the phrase “his homemade CO2 laser.”

   Are those hand-peened rivets, pop rivets, or bolts?

   they are hand-peened rivets which are very easy to do. Just take small nail/brads, place them in pre-cut holes, snip with pliers and peen over with a small hammer.

   The table is homemade (sort of). the laser is a commercial cutting laser.
