  1. The blue color will come in handy when defusing a bomb because as everyone knows you always cut the blue wire when the timer has two seconds left on it.

  2. There’s a law about making jokes about bombs while in line for airport security.. I’m betting that’s the law that will be used to arrest and prosecute someone carrying this tool through airport security. Stranger things have happened.

  3. Two things spring to mind …

I’ll bet the shipping to the UK doubles the cost … and then it gets impounded

Secondly we need a version for lefties! What use is the special etching if it is either in towards the palm or upside down!

  4. @phillip, I agree most people wouldn’t be so stupid as to carry that through security. Eventually thoug, someone will pack it in their bag and it will get flagged by a baggage inspector, or the police will stop someone ont he highway, search them and find it. It’s not really the intelligence of people at issue here, it’s the ignorance of airport security, police, baggage, postal and customs inspectors, as evidenced by recent arrests and shakedowns! When they see the word “bomb” written on something, they are going to freak out, even if it’s just a joke as it is here! That’s perhaps the most interesting thing about this tool, as it will expose that perception.

  5. @phillip: mmmmmmm, capitalism! gimmme somethin’ to buy!

@mintcake: too bad it’s not open source. think about all our makers could learn! strobing a keypad, driving multiple 7 segment displays, state machines, timers, interrupts, the list goes on and on… perhaps someone could cook up a “shield” for the arduino… think about it! Make: branded hoax devices infiltrating security checkpoints near you!

  6. It’s already prohibited as carry-on by the TSA
because of the knife blade. Doesn’t matter what
it says on it, it’ll get consfiscated because of
that. I’ve got the warranty voider and yet to
have an issue because it’s always in my checked
    luggage.

They still search the bag because of the 6″ pair
of pliers but don’t care about the 3 screwdrivers.

  7. During WWII Real bomb tools are usualy made of brass or other non-magnetic material. That knife looks like it could be affected or be a magnet.

  8. ive never understood the reason behind wire strippers only going down to 20 gauge. so often i’m cursing at myself while trying to strip 22 and 24 gauge wire…

  9. Completely useless without a corkscrew !! (you don’t need a bottle opener, use the teeth of a friend, or keys, or any part of the knife!)

  10. “During WWII Real bomb tools are usually made of brass or other non-magnetic material. That knife looks like it could be affected or be a magnet.”

Out of curiosity, why would magnets be in a bomb?

    – My 3 year-old daughter was pulled out of line and searched at the airport. Never underestimate the ability of the TSA to detect a threat where there is none. Or wear a t-shirt that’s guaranteed to get you detained:

  12. I don’t see it as a problem; afterall, you are not threatening/joking that it is a bomb. Quite the opposite infact, you are threatening/joking that it can defuse a bomb.

There’s still that pesky TSA rule about sharp objects…
