  1. Readers should note: I saw this item on Engadget a couple of weeks ago and was really excitede about it, especially since it was being touted as a low cost device, prices starting at $110. Well there’s a caveat, those prices are only if you order in quantities of 1000 or more. For a single unit, the base price and all of the peripherals cost 2.5 times what they list for. The $400 fully decked out model then becomes a $1000 lackluster toy.

  2. That’s $110 for the bare board. Options add up – cell phone module is $94, screen is $77, etc. Fully optioned, with cell, GPS, WiFi, screen, battery, etc., it’s $388 (in lots of 1000).

For that kind of money, I’ll wait for OpenMoko.

  3. I’m getting a little inpatient waiting for OpenMoko. the ‘1’ button on my cell is beginning to fail so I’m worried I’ll have to own one more closed phone before it’s ready.

  4. kryten007, I like your idea of a group buy. If I organized a buying co-op for this product, how many other people do you think you could get to buy this product?
