Fuelcell
Fuel cell car kit – save the world with a tiny fuel cell car
Price: $124.95
Buy: Electronickits – Link.

This kit takes model cars to the next level: with it, you can build your own experimental reversible fuel cell car that runs on water. The kit includes a solar panel, which provides the electricity needed to activate electrolysis. The resulting fuel is then stored in the fuel cell. The kit also comes with all the materials needed to build the car, the complete reversible fuel cell, a digital multimeter, and a lab manual with 30 experiments. Cheapskates that they are, water is not included. Great for kids, but the parts are comprehensive enough that they can be a great building block for further experiments.

Phouse

Solar power house kit – learn about solar and alt power with this home kit!
Price: $124.95
Buy: Electronickits – Link.

Power House: Experiments in Future Techniques provides an engaging introduction to regenerative energy sources while learning basic concepts and principles in physical science. The kit focuses on the heat and light energy from the sun, the energy from the wind, as well as with electrochemical and plant energy. You will learn how to transform and use these forms of energy.

With this Thames & Kosmos Power House kit you can build a model house complete with solar panels, windmill, greenhouse, and desalination system. You can build and operate an electric train, windmill, solar cooker, solar hot water tank, hygrometer, electric motor, power hoist, sail car, and more! Plant watercress, prepare sauerkraut, and make chewing gum. Learn how plants convert sunlight into energy for your body and your engines.

Sk-40Small
Solar educational kit – one for the mini-makers!
Price: $19.95
Buy: Electronic kits – Link.

Now you can experiment with solar energy…the energy source of the future. The solar educational kit is designed to let you build you own solar models.

The solar cell modules, when placed in direct sunlight or close to incandescent light bulbs, generate power similar to batteries. Discover by yourself how to harness the energy of sunlight and apply it in countless practical applications.

Solar Energy Projects for the Evil Genius is a treasure trove for Makers interesting in Solar Doo-Dads – I’m sure I’ve seen the author’s name on the MAKE: Blog.

It’s got good reviews, and it’s Amazon’s bestselling solar book too! Anyone read it?

  2. Cairn says:

Umm, I like Herbie the Mouse bot as much as the next guy, but how is it a solar project?

    Sorry to be pedantic.

  3. pt says:

@Cairn – has a light sensor, it chases light or runs away from light… not a solely solar project but i thought it was fun to include with the others.

  4. Sleepydog says:

You can find broken solar cells on ebay and build your own array for a lot less than the “kit” above.

  6. Robin Dues says:

Certainly, but people need to acknowledge that adding Solar in their home is an purchase that should improve the actual value of their property if / when they come to a decision to sell. With the environment the way it is going we simply cannot disregard any item that delivers 100 % free electricity at no cost to both the customer and more importantly the world!

  7. Naina says:

Hey webmaster, your site,s design is superb and loving it. Your posts are so cool. Please continue this good work. Regards.
