Sony’s pet TV

Here’s one of the artsy Sony projects that will likely never go beyond the concept phase, but very cool to think about… a little pet-like TV (reminds me of the Sony Rolly on my desk!) –

The concept of “Little TV that Rest in Your Hand” inspired an organic form (like a living creature) and friendly appearance. To complete the effect, we chose video patterns and an interface design that reflects thinking outside the box of conventional TVs. Although the color bar pattern recalls familiar television color bars, animation distinguishes it from an ordinary video pattern. The face and eye patterns make the set more lifelike, for a product that seems even more like a little friend.

To switch to the pattern, squeeze the set’s soft body to press an embedded switch-another invitation to enjoy touching the set.

  1. @AnonymousMaker – actually this is a blog about things i think are cool, along with our staff, our online writers and makers who send things in (like this one). take a look at the pages where sony talks about the process and inspiration when designing something like the tv you hold in your hand.

not everything is a diy project, but that doesn’t mean everything can’t inspire diy projects.

  2. Yeah, I was thinking Chumby too. :)

If Sony can sell the Rolly, I don’t see why they can’t sell this thing too. If they allow it to be hackable, then it opens up possibilities for incorporating it into your DIY projects.
