While at Maker Faire in Austin, I met Cristen Andrews of cristencrochet.blogspot.com who crocheted the most lovely backpacks, hats, cozies, bowls and more — all from plastic bags. Here in this video she shows us some of the cool things she makes and how to get started crocheting with plastic bags.

For more detail, check out the step-by-step photos on her blog on how to prepare plastic bags for crocheting here. – Link.

    Hi,

what Fiber Optic Cable is trying to say, is, that yes she’s really cute and that should be the first response of any Geek, as all Geeks and Makers are obviously either desperate, males, lesbians, or perhaps a twisted combination of all three?

c’mon people this is some great work. save the plastic, save the earth 8)

To Honestly and whoever else has a problem with someone saying she’s cute,

Lighten up. No, I’m not desperate. I’m also not some weirdo guy in his 50’s saying that some 20ish girl is cute. I’m actually around her age (+/- a year). I really appreciate the fact that she is recycling something that most people consider junk into something cool and useful. That is one of the main premises of Make.

Believe it or not, I DO take her seriously. It might not have seemed like it because of me agreeing that she is cute. I checked out the link and I think all the things she made are really cool. So to sum everything up…I think what she’s making is awesome, and I also think its awesome that she is good-looking and a Maker. So lighten up.

P.S.-To the Maker if you read this I think what you made is really cool and I’m glad there are people like you out there thinking up great ways to recycle stuff like this. Thank you for sharing and I hope I didn’t offended you by calling you cute.

Plastic is choking our environment – and not just in the
oceans. An even better solution is for everyone to turn down paper or plastic
and use reusable bags for all their shopping! If you are like the rest of us
remembering your plastic bags turns out to be a big problem!. The number one
reason our community members give for not using reusable bags is that they
    forget them.
