A colleague and I’ve recently been polishing up a project for our research group in Arts, Media and Engineering at ASU: It’s a large plush squid with circuitry inside to interface with a computer program. I designed the pattern loosely based on the giant plush squids by Cassandra Nguyen, and I sewed sensors into each tentacle to make it a collaborative, multi-user controller. I used various traditional techniques as well as some conductive thread, fabric, and velcro to make the tentacles soft and inviting. Each user wears a personalized bracelet so the squid can identify them. – Link & more.
