Relish At Home – Grand Opening in Berkeley

Relish
Relish At Home is a brand new store in Berkeley that sells some of the most beautiful handmade goods, mostly from what I like to call “self-made crafters”. These talented crafters turned their art and hobby into their own business. I got a chance to visit the shop and chat with the co-founders, Kelly and Nancy, as they got ready for their opening party last Friday.

Once you step into the store you are transformed and inspired by all the beautiful goods around. From the embroidered tissue packs that Kelly makes by recycling felt from old billiard tables, to the intricately designed embossed leather belts, there is a behind the scenes and maker story for almost every object in the store.

The store will have monthly special events featuring different crafters/designers, so check out the Relish At Home web site to find out when the next event will be.

Might as well mention the grand-daddy of handcrafted markets (it started in 1974), the Eugene Saturday Market, which has basically one rule: what you sell you must also make. Unlike elitist juried craft shows and galleries anyone who shows up is generally allowed to sell, the booth fee is progressive, and the variety runs from inexpensive crafts to high art.
