As a first foray into the realm of professional PCB fabrication, Flickr member A.Square designed this 6-pin breadboard adapter for programming AVR chips –

I built and have been using an Evil Mad Scientist Labs-style minimalist target board. It works great, but the problem is you more-or-less need a different board for every different type of chip you want to program, plus, you need to shuttle the chip back and forth from the breadboard to the programmer. It would be great to be able to program the chip in-breadboard, by the dual-row header pin won’t allow that. You can run wires directly from your programmer to the breadboard, but that’s a little messy. So, I decided to make a simple breadboard adapter for the ICSP header.

simple, handy – good idea! – Link

I was in the process of making this very thing (though mine isn’t nearly as slick, it uses perfboard) when I saw this in the flickr pool.

I really like how it uses the board’s power buses.

    Very cool.

My approach was a little simpler – I took a chunk of dual-row pin header (long ones, suitable like for wire wrapping) and bent them out to fit a breadboard.

Picture the pin header’s bottom being bent out so it looks like a “Y”. Voila! A 6-pin ISP pin header that fits in a breadboard!

Nice and simple, and best of all — cheap!
