I absolutely NEED this help from Vicki Howell. I do belong to a knitting group, and they really do help a beginning knitter like myself, but sometimes when I’m knitting late at night, by myself, there is no one around to help me. I like Vicki Howell’s explanations of knitting, she’s very comprehensive and writes in terms I can understand

I am new to knitting but I am in love. I recently started knitting on the bus, but I find I’m getting to stitches in my pattern I’m not completely familiar with or have forgotten and I usually have to put my knitting down until I get to my home/office to be able to look them up. This book would be of great help.

  4. HollyP says:

I need this book because my grandmother, an avid knitter, is no longer around to share tips with me.
My grandmother made Craftzine-worthy sweaters. I am the proud owner of her aquarium sweater and her ski chalet sweater. Both are amazing works of art.
My kids never knew her, but have heard all about her knitting. They keep waiting for her sweaters to rain down from heaven so they can have sweaters of their own. Just in case that doesn’t happen, I need to be prepared to make sweaters.

  5. Julie says:

I so neeeeeeed this book, I’ve been knitting for a while. But I’m so ashamed to admit that I still don’t know my purl from my knit!

    SOS Help!
I was at the awesome Makers Faire this past weekend with my crafty hubbie and we both got so excited with the felted animal kits. I bought a sheep and he has the cute cow. I opened the bag last night and realized that these need to be knitted first. Yikes! I know a little knit and finally figured out purl. But how do you M1 and K2Tog etc etc. Would love to finish these adorable projects and hopefully winning this book will help. Thanks!

  8. Jessica says:

I can tell that even when I’m an “experienced” knitter (does more than a year count?), I’ll be needing help. I’m still trying to work out the difference between a ssk and a k2tog.

  9. Mokona says:

Oh, I definitely need this book! As a beginner, a lot of terms and basic kitting knowledge is way over my head, and I’m never sure how to fix my mistakes (without ripping the whole thing apart). A book like this would really be a life-saver!

  10. capt-poprocks.livejournal.com says:

I could totally use this book! Not a beginner anymore, but far from an expert at knitting. I’ve got so many projects that are half finished! Plus I like to work on the go, so if there’s a problem there’s no internet around to see how to fix it.

  11. reina says:

i just started teaching myself to knit. i can use all the help i can get.

  12. Melanie says:

I need this book! Why? Because I don’t have any knitting books yet. I also am a newer knitter and could use all the help I can get.

  13. ChibiCreesto says:

I need this book because I’ve been trying to learn how to knit for months (life is busy) but I always have to take the books back to the library before I finish so I have many many “scarves” still on the needles because I don’t know how to finish them off!

  14. Bryanna says:

I need this book because I am just beginning to learn and have no one I know to help and I’ve heard that this book is extremely helpful!

  15. ScienceGirl says:

I need this book because I just quit my job and I need some new knitting projects to fill my newly spacious and free days! Ahhh, the freedom.

  16. Jennifer says:

I’m still a newbie knitter. I’ve probably frogged more projects than I’ve finished because I can’t figure out how to fix my mistakes :(

  17. inaudible melodies says:

This book would be incredibly useful to me, because I’m always knitting in public without a computer around to run to if I get stuck. :)

  18. Jennifer says:

Last winter I taught 35 people to knit and oversaw 55 total knitters. I organized “Project Knit” and donated all pieces to a homeless shelter. I’m planning on doing it again next winter and need the perfect reference book for all of the newbies and mild knitters. They’ll all fall in love with you and this sassy book so there’s a sales potential! Bonus: you’d be helping the homeless. It’s a win/win.

This looks like a great book! I’m a novice knitter and could definitely use more tips – especially from Vickie Howell!

  22. Ruby says:

This sounds like a perfect reference now that I’ve gotten the hang of knitting rectangles and am ready to read some patterns and move beyond scarves.

  23. Liana says:

I need this book because I am a new knitter. Seriously, I live on Garter Stitch Alley with my blue acrylic scarf. I need help! (Maybe a change of scenery? I hear Stockingette Boulevard is a nice area of town!)

  24. judithsewstoo says:

I just recently learned how to knit and I’m still trying to wrap my brain around a lot of it. Even though I’m new to this venerable craft, I decided to jump in to the deep end and am awaiting my first ever sock kit… I have no idea what I’m doing or how to fix my mistakes. :(
    Halp!

  25. Doug says:

I need this book, big time. I’m just starting to branch out from knitting basic scarves and hats and need some help understanding patterns and all of these fancy-schmancy stitches I keep seeing in patterns.
Also, you’d be helping gt more men into knitting, whic I see as a good thing.

I just started knitting less than a year ago and I can always use as much help as I can get, and I love her show. Please pick me! :)

  28. Juliann says:

I am hopeless at needleknitting. I really desperately need help! Also I think this book will have a lot of useful information to help with loom knitting (which I can do fairly well!)

  29. sketchgurl says:

I would love to have a copy of this book. I am currently teaching myself how to knit via books as I don’t have any knitting pros readily available to teach me. So far it’s going alright, but I get stuck often & I could use all the help I can get to expand my knowledge and improve in this craft. :)
    sketchgurl@gmail.com

  30. Megan says:

I am a beginning knitter and could definitely use the help from this wonderful-looking book!

  31. Amy says:

As a new and enthusiastic knitter I would love to have a copy of this book, especially as my Grandma – the family oracle on all things knitting – is no longer around to tell me how to do it. Plus, I’m a poor research student with limited funds, and thus would not be able to justify buying myself a copy instead of something dull and academic. :)

  32. mellowbeing says:

I’m going past my phase of making scarves and flat wristwarmers and going onto making my first sweater. It’s very exciting! I think having a book like this will propel me to work on more complicated projects and make fancy sweaters and lace shawls I’m too intimidated to work on now.

  33. Margarete says:

I knit during my daily 4h-bus ride – and I always forget how to do the kitchener stitch.
    Therefore I need this book.
    Thanks!

  34. anne says:

I would love to be the proud owner of this book so that when I embark on a new sweater that couldn’t possibly be as hard as it looks, I will be able to refer to this book.
Not after the first mistake, mind you, nor the correcting of that mistake, but when I have corrected once or twice more because I know that I can correct it without anyone’s help.
It is then I realize that I have no idea what I am doing.
So by this time I will need a wonderful book at my side to help me sort through what has now become a three-sleeved sweater. Extra sleeve for decoration, of course.
    Thanks!

  35. j9 drost says:

because i’m currently unemployed and need some more distractions!

  36. gremmissina says:

because i “lent” (read: gave) my similar reference book to a beginner knitter friend.

  37. mztallulah says:

I need the book because I’m tired of only knowing one way to cast on and cast off.

  38. Lisa says:

Boy do I need this! I always seem to “break” my project between classes and/or meetings and am very bad about fixing my own work. If I am going to make so many mistakes, I need to figure out how to fix them!

  39. Michelle says:

I can always use some aid for my knitting!

  40. oohisay says:

I need this because, in the process of learning crochet first and then knitting, I resent the mysterious ‘lost stitch’ phenomenon. Why must I keep those stitches on the needle!? I am the queen of frogging and have undone so many things because of one or two misplaced stitches. I need to learn about bandaids, not amputation!

  41. mztallulah says:

I need the book because I’m tired of only knowing one way to cast on and cast off.

  42. Amy B. says:

Why do I need this book? Well, I’m a knitter who is always on the go — I knit in carpool, at swim lessons, etc. When I get to a tough spot in my knitting, rather than put it down and wait until I get home to look it up, I usually just make up what I think I need to do. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Some stuff you just can’t fake. So it would be great to have a good reference! Thanks for the giveaway!

  43. Terri D. says:

I need this book because even though I’ve been knitting for 20 years I still get a total brain freeze everytime I have to do a kitchener stitch. Or a provisional cast on. Or…

  44. karen says:

Oh man, I could really use this book because I just learned to knit last month and am constantly in need of fix-it advice (and no one in my circle of family/peeps I see every day knits!). This would fit perfectly in my purse, bonus!

  45. kentucky says:

My mother never made anything with her hands. My grandmother, to my knowledge, never made anything with her hands. I have had to learn to cook, sew, and knit on my own. Now my mother reaps the benefits of my DIY attitude.
I was in a knitting group but then I got elected to public office and can no longer make knitting nights. So, I need someone to teach me what to do when the stitches go astray…It’s a sad story, I know.
Vickie Howell is great and I would love to own this book.

  46. Sarah says:

I am always forgetting technique things, so a handy, portable guide would be ideal.

  47. sarah says:

I need this book because I’ve taken to saying “it’s not a knitting project unless I have to unravel it at least 3 times.” So Knit Aid would likely be a timesaver for me.

  48. brookezine says:

I need this book because I have been a knitter for years, but only know knit and purl. I want to be able to make more than a blanket or scarf. I feel inadequant as a crafter and want to move further in my knit know-how. I want to knit little bunnies for foster children, and little kitty sweaters for alley cats, socks for the sock-less and slippers for the shoe-less, and cozies for grandma’s fresh produce. I want to save the world with my knitting, but now all I can do is keep my neck warm. Please, help me make this world a better place.

I am just now learning to knit. I have always wanted to learn and I love it! I am moving cross country in two months so I will be loosing my go-to knitting friends. Certainly I will make new knitting friends but this book would be a lifesaver during my in between time! -Jana

  52. Meghan says:

I need this book because I’m a very good knitter but can only make scarves! I’ve got knitting ADD and think this book will really help.

  53. Meghan says:

  54. Katherine says:

I need this book because my brother is moving to England and I promised I’d make some scarves to take with him.

  55. Jaymi says:

I definitely am in need of this book. As a fairly new, but rabid knitter, I frequently find myself confidently entering a yarn shop, feeling prepared with what I need to know to gather supplies, and then quickly getting overwhelmed with questions and what-ifs. Or worse yet, I’m stuck somewhere so I pull out my knitting, only to get hung up on a problem and I’m unable to move forward in the knitting until I get home and look up the answer. I mean – can’t you see it? The HORROR of being stuck somewhere, with knitting that you can’t knit on?!! I’ve even considered upgrading my cell phone to a Trio or Blackberry so I can have internet access anywhere to look up answers to my questions! I ALWAYS have my knitting with me, and I’d keep this book with me always so I’m never caught unprepared on knitting expeditions! This would be a HUGE resource!

  56. Meghan says:

    Please don’t penalize me!

  57. Katrina Perkosky says:

As a self-taught knitter with a million things on her mind, I often forget knitting techniques, from project to project and even night to night! I need something that’s handy (but hip and cool are a major plus), so I don’t pull my hair out getting up and looking up on the Internet how to do a pssoor a ssk – by the time I figure it out, I don’t even feel like knitting anymore! So please, I need this book (and I LOVE Vickie too!).
    kisses,
    trina

  58. Rhiannon says:

I need this book because I hardly ever knit at home with access to all me tools. I almost always knit on the go. On the bus, in the car, on the bus, at the park, at my friends house, on the bus . . . .

  59. Fanny says:

I need this book since the only time I have to knit is when I’m on the go! There is just not enough time in the day to KNIT!!! =P Thanks.

  60. Clare says:

ooo, I’d love a copy of that book!

  61. gypsygrrl says:

And the knitter in me likes to have good books that are portable–portable AND good are hard to find. When I saw it had been published, I knew I had to have one…a free one would be easier on me poor wallet.
    Thank you!

  62. Pamela Thompson says:

This book is on my wish list it so it would be awesome to win.

  63. Elizabeth says:

There are many reasons I need this book. One is that I rarely knit at home anymore, and never am I near a computer to look stuff up when i need to. This would also be a really great resource for me to take to my Church of Craft group to share and answer people’s questions when I can’t remember the answer.

  64. Mirvana says:

I desperately need this book because I am almost always knitting on the go, and when I make a mistake, I don’t always know how to fix it. Since I’m out on the road a lot, I don’t have access to any of my knitting how-to books, which are sitting on a shelf at home, so a portable knitting help book would be very useful to me! I find knitting to be great therapy for the stress I experience while traveling for work. Hope I win the book!

  65. andrea says:

I need this book. I always manage to do something weird when I am knitting. I could use some help. If you can’t give me the book than can you send Vicki to my house for a lesson?

  66. Jen says:

I have this on my amazon wish list already. Currently I drag around a full size how to knit book for when I forget how to tell which side is knit and which is purl.

  67. thesleepyknitter says:

Would you like to share this book with college students? I teach freshman English courses, I live a block away from the campus, and I have recently adopted a baby girl. When the college girls, some of whom are beginning or intermediate knitters, come over to see the baby, they also want to see and talk about whatever knitting project I’m currently working (scarves, hats, socks, shrugs, bags, etc.), and whatever great knitting sites I’m currently using to solve my knitting challenges. If I’m using your book of helpful hints to overcome the challenges in my projects, the girls will become familiar with your book, too. Advertising! (As an aside, one of my English students wants to make a giant “speedknit” blanket with 80 cast-on stitches and four strands of chunky yarn, so I taught her how to make size 50 “broomstick” needles, twice the length of the plastic 50’s at the store — think they’ll will work? They’ll be heavy!)

  68. momma2boys says:

I need this book because I’m a knitter with 2 young sons. That means that I frequently stop in the middle of knitting to rescue a boy from a dragon or bring him liquid refreshment. Occasionally needles are removed from a project when no other swords are available. All of this leads to messes I need help with!

  69. Lorri says:

This book would be a great addition to my library. I’m not an expert knitter so any tips and tricks are welcome. I’m on Craftzine a couple times a day for inspiration and am amazed at the talent out there.

  70. ames says:

The many ways I can screw up a knitting project number in the hundreds. Clearly this book needs to come live with me so I can learn how to fix my bizarro mistakes.

  71. Carrie says:

This book would be perfect for me! I own one knitting book, and it only shows the basics. I could really use a trouble-shooting book like this!

  72. Natalie says:

I am always knitting on the go, and have been looking for a small reference book for my bag. This one sounds perfect.

  73. Terrifoo says:

I need help!!! I’ve been knitting for a few years and it seems everything I make doesn’t turn out the way it should…I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!

  74. Donna says:

…well, I make mistakes, lots of them and it would help to have some really good advice instead of just flying by the seat of my pants…

  75. Julie says:

I just want to have a copy to place on my alphabetized shelves after Lemon-ade and before Kool-aid. P.S. And I knit and <3 Vickie.

  76. Saulyte says:

My head is full of knitting ideas, but I do not know how to knit well enough to realize them. It would be great to have a book full of answers to my endless questions about knitting:)

  77. Rebecca says:

I suck at seaming. I knit well, but finishing just kicks my butt every single time.
    I need help! Please???

  78. Marsha says:

I need this book because I make mistakes in my knitting ALL THE TIME and really could use some help in avoiding/fixing them!

  79. enidb says:

I go to a knitting cafe each weekend to knit, and everyone is so helpful, but I like to be able to know what I’m doing myself. The store doesn’t have Knit Aid, and it will be a great reference guide for all my projects.

  80. Natalie Hand says:

I ADORE Vickie Howell, she explains everything perfectly! There are so many times when it’s late and I can’t figure out what I’m supposed to do – and I doubt my friends from the knitting group want me to wake them up…
Spiral bound sounds even better, I can look at the book while I’m following along! So, so cool…

  81. Jennifer says:

because with 4 kids in sports i am always on the go and wouldn’t it be great to have such a handy reference to take along with me!
    smiles!

  82. LiveSimply says:

I just picked up knitting (as in …at MakerFaire.) I am super excited and haven’t been able to put my needles down but this book would be so helpful in keeping me on the right track!
    Thanks!

I need this book because most of my knitting is on the go, on the train to work, in the car (not while driving, in airports, while waiting in lines during errands, etc. and this would be perfect to take along.

  86. tiabel says:

I need this book because I want to be a better knitter than my sister.

  87. Holly B Snotty and Mighty says:

Knit Aid, Oh why do I need you so? Is it because I refuse to do gauge swatches and always end up giving to charity? That’s really just building good karma.
Or is it because I have to knit while holding back the zombie horde and raising three snot nosed kids?
I could sure use the help for Vickie Howell and CRAFT Magazine! Because the way I do it, Knitting is Dangerous and I need me some Knit Aid.

  88. erica says:

I’m a beginning knitter who has taught myself using references online. Being on a very tight budget I haven’t yet broken down and bought myself a book, choosing instead to invest in lots of needles and yarn! This book would be perfect for when I’m stuck on my knitting and don’t know where to go online for help and to start a great collection of knitting books!

  90. devon says:

I desperately need this book because I have absolutely no real-life knitting friends, so no one to glance over and say “Hey, your SSKs are backwards, silly!” Vickie’s video blog post made this book look like it would be so helpful to someone like me, who has no massive-store-of-knitting-information friends to keep her knitting in check. Also, it would be so fantastic to have a knitting book that offers advice and information without the added pressure of 25 new patterns. I have way too many sitting in the queue as it is.
    So…..pick meeeeeeeee!

  91. Wendy says:

I sooo need all the help I can get when it comes to finishing and fixing my knitting.

  92. Christy says:

I need this book! I’m fairly new to knitting and trying to knit a baby blanket for my baby due in November! I’d love to have more information regarding stitches and how to make things work if I mess up! I’m always on the go and this would be a invaluable resource!!

  93. elocin says:

Oh random number generator heed my cries, I needest all the help I can get! :)

  94. Marya says:

I have several old knitting projects still on the needles. The book would be a great help and I might be able to – gasp! – finish them!

  95. Sarah Adamson says:

I need this bookie because I have never been able to finish a knitting project. I did, however, teach myself to knit. One day I decided I could knit, and then I did! But I have about six half-finished projects including a baby sweater for a kid who’s no longer a baby. It’s sad, really. Thanks for rocking, Vickie Howell!

  96. Beatriz says:

I am learning how to knit with the help of old books I found at grandma’s house, since she is not around anymore to teach me (she was an awesome knitter). still struggling though… this book seems amazing!

  97. Victor says:

    I love Vickie Howell.
some aid on my knitting would be delightful! :D

  98. Piroska says:

This book sounds amazingly useful. I knit on the tram and train a lot, and it would be great to have an all-in-one reference for those tricky stitches!

  99. AshleeLisbeth says:

because i really need to progress past making hats and scarves.
i’m scared because i’m afraid i’ll make a big mess of tangled yarn.

  100. sheepishlywinkn says:

I would finally be able to return “The Knitting Answer Book” back to the library.

  101. Karen L. says:

I have read the review of this book and it sounds like this may be the one book that every knitter needs, no matter their skill. I am actually a crocheter (perhaps I shouldn’t be telling you this???) but recently had a friend start to teach me to knit. The problem is that I live out in the country and she lives in town so we only see each other about every other week, maybe less now with the price of gas! I really need a “red phone” with just her number on it. I was not going to bother to learn to knit but it seems like all the yarn patterns that I see that I especially like are knitted. So, that is why I really need this book. Thanks for listening!!!

I need this book because I just learned to knit this winter and I have so much to learn! This book seems like it will be very helpful for the multitude of questions I have about knitting!

  104. Karen L. says:

I am actually a crocheter … perhaps I shouldn’t be telling you that? Anyway, I have recently dabbled in knitting but find it confusing still. I was not going to bother learning except that it seems that all the yarn patterns that I especially like are knitted. This book sounds like the perfect solution to my lack of confidence.

  105. Karen L. says:

Sorry about the triple entry. I kept getting a screen that said I had an error with the entry and to retry and assumed it was not posted. We all know what assuming means and it looks like “it did”, at least on me and not you. Really sorry. Wish I could remove all but one.

  106. kate says:

even if you have been knitting a long time, who doesn’t need a knitting guru at their side? i know i could always use immediate advice!

  107. Morgan M. says:

I need this book because I am a beginning knitter and it would be a great resource for me to have as I grow in my knitting skill.

  108. LisaMarie says:

I could really use this book to improve my knitting expertise, which currently is not so great. I can knit and purl and I recently learned to cast off. My first scarf is about 15 feet long because I didn’t know how to stop. I just knit until I ran out of yarn.

  109. meg says:

I could use all the knit aide I can get. I keep starting projects, but never finishing. I always get stumped on certain “challenging” parts…. and I drop my needles in frustration. Consider me for the giveaway, if you please….(pretty please?)

  110. amoxie says:

I’m just about to graduate tomorrow. Knitting was the only thing that kept me sane during my grad program. I even knitted during the boring lecture classes and got an A. I need to learn how to finish projects off better.
this book would help so much.

  113. Bern says:

I’m a beginning knitter who is also a college student. That means that (a) I don’t have a lot of money to spend on books/supplies & (b) I AM on the go–constantly moving back & forth between school & home & various places/friends I like to visit. So this book would be perfect. I need it.

  114. amoxie says:

the internet spazzed out and i didn’t think it went through. there’s no way to delete the extras? I need sleep

  115. penelope says:

Mmm… knitting book… I would love this book because I graduate high school in a few days, and need the summer to get my knit on before I go to Oberlin College in Ohio. They have a kick-butt knitting store and I need to hone my skills. So yeah, this book is awesome. Want!

  116. whatzerkitty says:

I am the world’s worst seamer, and that is the reason I need this book. I have several unfinished, potentially beautiful sweaters just laying around my knitting area, because I’m just too afraid of destroying my own handiwork, by seaming them together. I honestly believe that Vicki can help me overcome this hurdle, and knit sweaters with unabashed joy.

  120. Ms.V says:

Ok, I really want to win this book for several reasons. 1)Getting a new place is expensive, and while I’ve raided the change cup in the car and the couch cushions, I can’t afford to buy it right now. 2)I promised my boyfriend that I was on a knitting book-buying-freeze (“Now You’re Knitting” was supposed to be the end-all be-all – which I got used for a measly $8 on a gift card – go deal!). 3) It would be much easier for me to refer to Knit Aid than to drive to the LYS to get advice & I’m not good on asking for help anyway. 4)My dad used to spell my name the same as Vickie’s (I don’t normally use an e) so I feel a cosmic connection to her. 5)I really like the idea of winning a prize – woo! [Thanks for offering this.]

  121. SHIRLEY says:

I could definitely use this book.
Y? b/c i was laid off and cant really afford to buy it on my own (eh, i cry-meant to be sarcastic fyi, although i really did–am i blogging? hehe anyways- life goes on ;) )..and jus like everyone else, its hard to teach yourself to knit!
so please support my cause and send this book my way..it would be appreciated. It’ll give me something to do besides j-o-b hunting *snooze*.
Either way thanks and have a WONDERFUL day!!

  122. ebi says:

I always find myself referring back to knittinghelp.com when I’m working on new projects. It would be great to have a handy-dandy guide like this!

  123. Bryn says:

I need this because today is my 21st birthday! And it would also help my knitting, obvi.

  124. Anna says:

One can never have enough reference books. Right?
    Thanks for hosting this give-away!

  125. Christiana says:

I just taught my six year old to knit yesterday and it is all she can talk about! She took her knitting with us on the train, knit while I was in the dressing room of a shop and any other chance she got! My nine year old has also been knitting for a while now. I’d love to have a good go to reference book for us all.

  126. Whitney says:

I totally need this book because I learned to knit over thanksgiving break and all I know how to do is make scarfs…I’m tired of making scards. I want to move on to big and much cooler knitted things! :)

  127. Theresa N says:

The Fix it and Finish it parts would be of great help to me, they’re both my weak areas.

  128. janet says:

yes! I can use all the help I can get when I’m knitting on the go! Vicki Howell is terrific!

  129. shannon says:

i’m a new knitter… only been knitting for probably 5 months and i need all the help i can get. yepyep.
(and hopefully i’ve commented before the deadline;)

  130. claudia freitas says:

I jsut start knitting and it would be great to have such a reference book, especially because they don’t publish tis kind of books around here (not anymore anyway). Since I’m in a different country and another continent, I don’t know if I will make the deadline. But, whatever!

  131. Megan says:

It’s mother’s day in two days. Enough said?
I need this for my mum.

  132. Crissy says:

…even though I’ve been knitting for almost five years, I can never remember how to seam properly.
