Rod Stewart: model train geek? Who knew? Stewart contacted Model Railroader magazine last year, said he’d been a hobbyist for 20 years, and sent them pics of his layout. While he was on tour, he visited the magazine’s offices in Milwaukee. Stewart invited editors to come see his HO scale 23′ x 124′ layout in LA. They did and were blown away by what they saw. The online article has no pics, the magazine article, with lots of pictures and track layout, was in the December ’07 issue of the magazine. The pics above are scans found online.

    I think that’s sexy, and I want his hobby…

Ohh, *that’s* why he covered Downtown Train.

(Nick, you should tell him so.)

This doesn’t surprise me. Neil Young is also a model train hobbyist and I heard that he was associated w/Lionel in some capacity (could someone vet that?).

  4. Bob Darlington says:

Neil Young designed and built an electronic control system so his son Ben could enjoy the hobby (he has cerebral palsy). This system became the Lionel TrainMaster Command and Control (TMCC) wireless remote system for controlling engines. As of late last year, Neil Young owns 20% of Lionel.
