Maker’s Quilt – first board

Makersquilt Board1 B Copy

It appears the journey of the Maker’s Quilt has just begun with this single step – Dgiancaspro has created the first piece for his ongoing collaborative project –

The traditional quilt is made of many embroidered squares contributed by different family members.
Some squares commemorate special events in the families history like a marriage, the birth of a child or an acquittal(OK That’s probably just my family)

The Makers Quilt like a traditional quilt will be made of electronic or mechanical squares contributed by makers.

Hmmm … could be a good use for all that good stuff going ’round in TGIMBOEJ. Should be interesting to see how this tale unfolds

  1. This is a great project idea. I’m looking foward to seeing what else people come up with since an LED chaser is the first thing I’d think of. I’d love to see some work with mechanical actuators.

One thing that’s not clear, the minimum size is 2×2″. Is there no maximum, and if all the boards can be different sizes, how will you interlink them?

Is there a maximum power? A cheap little hobby motor takes a couple of amps. If you power a few of those through somebody eles’s delicate board, you might fry the power lines on it.

  2. Powering the quilt will be a challenge. All the boards will be connected in parallel so that should avoid the frying problem.

I agree the interlinking will be difficult with out specifying a maximum. I published some ideas prematurely. I have since removed that line form the tentative spec.

    Thanks
    Dave
