New in the Maker Shed – Gakken Analog Synthesizer Kit

Sx-150 Bench

I’m happy to announce that the Gakken SX-150 Analog Synthesizer kit is now available in our Maker Shed. This sweet little synth is about the size of a large sandwich but sounds a whole lot more awesome. It sports controls for resonance, attack/decay, cuttoff filter, pitch envelope, has an external control input along with built-in speaker and line out. You can read my impressions/review of the kit here.

These kits will likely be snapped up in a hurry, so get ’em while they’re hot (and in stock!) –

This cool little synth kit is easy to put together, requires no soldering and is easy to hack (see links below). There are no English instructions included (book and kit are in Japanese but beautifully done) but the detailed illustrations are more than enough to easily put this kit together. Check out our blog links below to see our review and hacks. Imported from Japan in partnership with Gakken. 4 AA batteries (not included)

The SX-150 is a lot of fun to mod and experiment with. I switched out the pitch control strip on mine and added some buttons, which you can see in action below –

We’ll be posting info on more SX-150 mods/hacks/tips as soon as possible, so stay tuned!

Why is it f*ing inpossible to find out shipping costs before entering full adress & billing info?
Thats not much to ask imho.
Its cheap and looks cool but your website makes it all ugly. Its not that tricky to get it right.

  3. Collin Cunningham says:

@rage – Actually, you can estimate shipping costs pretty easily. Just select your country, state, and enter zip code, hit the “recalculate” button and you’ll be able to choose the rates from a pull-down menu.

    see example here –

  4. rage says:

Thanks Collin, I forgot the “state” which I thought wasn’t important when shipping abroad, so recalculate didn’t work with shipping.
Excuse my prior most unfriendly comment ;)

  5. Collin Cunningham says:

@rage – np, glad we could help

and thanks for the recap :)

  6. Annelid says:

    I got mine today from Make.com. :)
However the EXT source doesn’t seem to work.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

  7. Collin Cunningham says:

@Annelid – the ‘ext. source’ input needs a pretty strong signal to work, try an amplified signal

Hey, I would want to get this kit but the “stip” as a keyboard bugs me a little. If you made the video embeded on the page could you mabey post the schematics for the keboard with the trimpot and the momentary button keybord. Thanks!

  9. Collin Cunningham says:

@clay – yup, promise to post asap!
