CRAFT = Junk Mail?

JunkMailCraft.jpg
Eagle-eyed Craftzine reader Karl writes in with this sad development:

I caught the end of NBC’s Weekend Today last Sunday morning. They were talking about being “green” in every room. When addressing the problem of junk mail, they showed the following stack of paper that contains at least two issues of Craft magazine… Craft (or Make) is definitely not considered junk in my house!

Sure enough, there are not one but two copies of CRAFT: 09 at the top of that pile. Oh, NBC prop department…say it isn’t so!
Volume 09 cover.

    Well, in a more positive vein, it’s pretty cool that the NBC prop department HAS CRAFT to throw into the pile. Right?

    I’m not sure whether to laugh or be outraged at this. Especially considering Craft’s recent “Crafting Green” issue, it makes the whole thing a bit more on the funny side that they would use Craft in the pile. Badly done NBC…I’m sure they get loads of real junk mail they could have used instead.

    I’m with Laura on this! They probably had all of their actual junk mail in the recycling bin. Congrats to Craft for not having already been thrown out! :)

    I doubt they bought it just for a prop. I can think of better items to be considered junk that people would recognize. I wouldn’t take it as an insult. I’m sure People would have sued their butts off if they used their magazine, so they sent the intern out to pick up a few magz to use, and they could keep them. I would abuse that privilege.

    I demand a “Special Comment” about this from Keith Olbermann on Countdown. :P

    look at it as free publicity!!! woohoo!

    They must have just grabbed magazines from the green room (pun intended) to use as props. They must have two subscriptions because they love us so much! =]

    Obviously, someone had an idea that was not properly thought through to it’s logical conclusion. People pay for these magazines and if anyone cared to look inside they would see that Make and Craft are keepers that subscribers have on their bookshelves, not in a trash pile.

    NBC has problems understanding green-ness despite all of their publicity.
    Currently NBC/Universal is trying to construct a project on top of a subway station in Los Angeles that people regularly walk and bike to – completely ignoring the fact that people walk and bike in the neighborhood because there is a subway station nearby. In fact, they won’t allow a bike path to be constructed along the edge of their current property because they don’t want the public that close to the NBC/Universal property. The project is estimated to add thousands of extra car trips per a day in the neighborhood and includes thousands of parking spots and they don’t plan to add any infrastructure to protect the people using the greenest forms of transportation (their feet and legs) from the thousands of new cars that will be in the area.

    I also think it’s ironic that Craft is in the pile as there is the online-only option for subscriptions! What better way to save paper and thanks to Craft for making that an option for subscribers!
