After watching Zoe’s tutorial in the Steampunk Spats Threadbanger episode, I got inspired to use the same technique to make spats for my Converse sneakers. I like the idea of having some for keeping my cons clean while I paint/cast/do other messy stuff, and also some dressy ones for special occasions. Check out my Flickr set for some in-process photos.

spats are cute but there would NEVER be an occasion to wear them because i would look absolutely ridiculous

Looking ridiculous is a laudable goal, though! I really enjoy the fun pattern, it livens up the plain black shoes!

These are great! I probably have some fabric scraps around that I could use for this. Just wondering though, what did you use to fasten the ends of the spats? Velcro?

    sew-on snaps!
