Portland Tool Libraries

We got this message from Clifton Burt:

The Northeast Portland Tool Library is a non profit lending library of tools located at NE 20th and Killingsworth Sreet (Portland, OR). Open on Saturdays and Wednesdays, the checkout of the tools is free; it works just like a lending library for books. It began a year ago with 100 members and has now exceeded a membership of 500 patrons. On any given day, over a 100 tools are checked out and being used within the community. Some of the library’s collection that stood out in my mind as being particularly useful (to me) were air compressors, table saws, nail guns, a bike trailer, and extension cords. I signed up to help out with the upcoming SOUTHEAST Portland tool library since that’ll be in my neighborhood.

    Strangely enough, neither this entry nor the NEPTL web site mention that the library is in Portland, *Oregon*. There are Portlands in at least 11 other US states. For instance, Portland is the largest city in Maine.

    @East Coaster…

    Yep. When I passed this earlier, my brain said portland, ME. Must be my VT upbringing. Even in FL I think northeast…

    But I see the ever vigilant Gereth has corrected this in the post. Once again Comments educate.

    Burlington VT has a few sister cities too..even in Canada! (Shout out to MAKErs at Rice HS!!! 1984 grad here…)

    SORRY to gAreth…long day…..mispeeled it!

  4. Gareth Branwyn says:

    Yeah, sorry about that, folks. I knew it was Portland, OR, so I didn’t think to add that to the post. From now on (based on comments about other regional posts), I’m going to try and be vigilant about clearly listing the city and state in every such post.

    And yes, comments most certainly educate (or correct). Much appreciated.
