Arduino refrigerator alert system

What do you do if your kids are always leaving the refrigerator door open? Make a scrolling Arduino powered sign of course! It may be a bit overkill, but it’s hard to miss the large format LED matrix scrolling in front of you. Next step, shock audio alert!

We have 5 kids in our household, and with that someone is always leaving the refrigerator door open. So we set out to built this next Arduino project so that when the door is left open, the LED panel will activate as a reminder to check and close the door.

  1. I put small wedges under the front feet of the fridge, so that it’s not perfectly level and the door has a tendency to close itself :)

      1. No, but it can be CNC machined or made from a 3D printer… Or you could probably replace the wedge by an air bag and a small arduino-controlled pump to automatically tilt the fridge and close the door :)

  2. FYI-
On most any frige, if you pull off the front lower grille (if there is one) you will find a 10mm or 3/8 hex head showing on each side. turning this clockwise raises the front of the frige, and CCW lowers it.Maxing the front height adjustment will allow the ‘slam’ factor you need while still allowing the frige to roll in and out for cleaning. Yours may have some rubber tipped feet that are lowered to the floor to prevent rolling when the door is opened- just bring these all the way down after the height adjustment so they work as intended.

Use of an Arduino controlled electric driver is advised. ;)

Most have no rear wheel adjustment, just one so far in my travels.
