How-To: Make Tooth Fairy Bags

tooth-fairy-bags.jpg
I recently shared the story of a tooth fairy pillow that I made for my daughter over on my blog, Average Jane Crafter. Somehow I had the idea that it needed to be a pillow with a pocket that she could hang on her doorknob, even though as a kid I usually just shoved my lost teeth under my pillow. (how my mom ever found and fished them out is a mystery to me, much like how she could always spread cold butter on bread) I love this Tooth Fairy bag idea from Molly over at the purl bee, though. These colorful little bags come together quickly and make a cute pouch for holding the freshly-yanked tooth in place under a pillow on the bed. I may have to make one of these for my son, who’s likely to start losing teeth soon.

My Mom made something similar to this for me and my brother when we got our first teeth out. It was a dark blue felt pocket, with a white felt tooth stitched onto it. The tooth had a smiling face embroidered on.
We kept them on our bedside tables because our parents told us that the tooth fairy was in such a rush to collect all of the teeth in the world, that she couldn’t take the time to dig under our pillows. To prove that the tooth fairy was all over the world every single night, we always found foreign coins instead of the classic quarter or dollar coin.
It always made losing teeth much more enjoyable. :)

I have my kids leave their teeth by their toothbrushes. After all, the Tooth Fairy checks to make sure they are taking care of those teeth she will soon collect!
