3D Printing & Imaging Craft & Design

earthbroochsilver.png

Earth Brooch Silver is a piece of jewelry made from a custom-selected piece of topography, 3D printed in wax and then cast in silver. I’ve been working with my friend Matt Mechtley to print out geographies on my MakerBot using USGS data, but these folks have got it down! Via Core77.

Check out the tables made by the same people.

I wonder if something like that could be made in segments with a makerbot.

It would be a fun conversation piece, and all the more fun if you’ve made it yourself.

I suppose it would take a lot of plastic to make something like that. Could get expensive.

Thanks Becky for the post and thanks Andy for the kind words!

Printing a table with a Maker Bot would get pretty expensive; however, you can put a milling head on a maker bot and use it to mill foam. You could then put the pieces together, fill and paint it.

You could also mill a negative form and pore concrete into it to cast a nice but heavy table.

    Tooteloo,
    Stephen
